The #WesternBalkans can step up its game in the digital age. But to do that, the region must collaborate to bridge the digital divide and bring fast, reliable internet to all.
The World Bank, in partnership with ΑΔΜΗΕ – IPTO‘s wholly-owned subsidiary GRID Telecom, hosted a successful 4th Balkans Digital Highway Workshop in Athens, Greece from January 18 to 19, 2023. Transmission system operators (TSOs) from #Albania, #Kosovo, #Montenegro and #NorthMacedonia and neighboring #EuropeanUnion countries came together to discuss expanding cooperation in telecommunications and sharing of fiber-optic assets. Natalija Gelvanovska-Garcia, Senior ICT Policy Specialist at the World Bank said, “TSOs working together can greatly improve and diversify digital connectivity of the Western Balkans, opening new digital corridors for the global players. It is an excellent opportunity for regional integration, and we are proud to support this effort.”
This workshop was part of the World Bank’s Balkans Digital Highway Initiative and will provide updates on its activities as part of the WBIF technical assistance project “Balkans Digital Highway: Feasibility Study and Cost Benefit Analysis, Prelim. Design.”
