Today, on October 27, 2020, Memorandums of Understanding were signed between the Ministry of Economy and Environment and Higher Education Institutions of Kosovo, in regard to Kosovo Research and Education Network (KREN).
The representatives of universities and colleges signed the memorandum with the Minister Mr. Blerim Kuçi, describing this as an important event for the interconnection of education and technology.
Minister Blerim Kuçi emphasize that the purpose of this memorandum is to promote economic development and increase employment through the inclusion of information and communication technology, in particular access to technology and knowledge resources for students and professors of all colleges and universities in Kosovo.
“I feel satisfied because Kosovo will be enabled to access into international networks through which students and professors will have access to similar networks that exist in the world. This is an innovation, an additional opportunity that we must use and today we are signing a memorandum of understanding with you to make this possible”, said Kuçi.
Whereas, Mrs. Fjolla Restelica-Ahmeti, Head of the KODE Project Implementation Unit, emphasis that this project aims to finance all activities that will help Kosovo in the digital transformation.
“Now Kosovo is creating the National Network for Research and Education – KREN. KREN is the first network of its kind, which has as its main goal the establishment / development of the research community and the development of education in Kosovo”.
This network claims to achieve the development of the research community, providing this community with access to various digital resources, such as: access to modern information technology infrastructure, various digital services, access to literature, as well as to provide collaboration in between educational institutions inside and outside Kosovo.
In the framework of the functioning of KREN, a data center for research and education is currently being developed in the ITP park in Prizren and a portfolio of services is being developed that will be at the service of users – universities and colleges in Kosovo.
This network will soon be part of the largest academic network in Europe, GEANT. Through this membership, educational institutions in Kosovo will have the exclusive opportunity to cooperate with the most prestigious universities and research institutions in Europe.
